The BMW CLUB 67th National Rally August Bank Holiday Weekend.
Friday 24th, Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th, Return Home Monday 27th.
The BMW Club will be 67 years old in 2018, not a significant year I know but all the same we get closer to the 70th year. A team of volunteers from the Midland Section has been assembled to organise and run the National Rally event.
The venue is the most important element to the event. We require a location that can provide a good flat well drained camping site, good quality hotel style accommodation, restaurant and social facilities all on one site and the venue we have chosen provides just that. The location is the Fire Service College ( FSC ) Moreton in Marsh, set in the heart of the Cotswolds and fairly well situated in the middle of the country. This is a site and facilities we have used previously for the 60th rally back in 2011.
The Rally will be open to all Club members and their families and guests. The event will be underwritten by the club and funded by a mixture of event entry fees along with camping and accommodation charges. I want to take this opportunity to explain why we have to make an entry fee part of the deal which many of you have felt unjustified and thus is generally unpopular. To acquire the use of such facilities does not come cheap today and the Club has to pay to hire the site which covers cost of onsite staff along with fees for essential support equipment such as good quality toilets and washing facilities for campers and many other smaller items that we require to run the event. The alternative would be to load the charge onto the camping and accommodation charges which would likely prove just as unpopular. However, we choose to disperse this cost it has to be covered by those attending the event and not the central funds.
The food will be on a pre booking system (Meal Deal) and we have negotiated a very good price for a combined accommodation or camping along with breakfast and evening meal deal with drinks included. As with other aspects of the site the restaurant has been totally refurbished to a very high standard and varied choice of food will be available. You would find it very hard to get this quality of food and choice for the same price anywhere else in the Cotswolds. Please consider booking a “meal deal” at time of booking the event as buying food on site on the day will not be possible. Tea/coffee will be available for members at set times during the day.
The accommodation blocks are of a high standard being only a few years old following extensive rebuilding and refurbishment since we last used this site in 2011. The rooms are very well equipped all having en-suite, flat screen TV, tea/coffee making facilities and a wall safe. On all floors there is a small kitchen and meeting room. Each block has washing and drying facilities which will also be available to camping members. The camping area will have good quality portable toilets and very close by the use of showers in the accommodation block along with the showers at the swimming pool.
The site will be managed by the FSC staff for most of the work involved thus enabling club members free time to enjoy the week end, however, some duties will still need to be covered by volunteer club members and most of this will be on the Friday booking in members and marshalling the site.
The weekend would include the usual rally events of ride outs and we are looking for local club members to step forward and lead/help with taking out motorcycle runs, also looking to have advanced and novice rider training, VCR concourse event and competitions. Local members required to organise and lead a walk about; the swimming pool and sauna will be available to all attendees. Demonstrations from the FSC are a possibility? Along with a unique opportunity to ride the smallest government registered motorway in the world the M96, we plan to get as many motorcycles on this motorway for a photo opportunity and possibly breaking a world record? We intend to invite BMW GB to attend with their demonstration fleet along with other motorcycle related businesses to the event. If any businesses wish to attend then you are welcome. No business charges will be made to anyone who wishes to come to this event we need you to add colour and opportunity to this event, See contacts below.
So that’s it in motion we’ve done the preliminary work now we need you to attend this event in large numbers so please let’s have a really big turnout to make this a great and legendary W/E in your memory banks. The more the merrier as they say. Children 16 years or under are free There will be no event fee or camping charges for children 16 and under but meal charges will apply, but if taking a room in the accommodation blocks then this will have to be paid for along with meals in the restaurant. We would be interested in your feedback regarding this planned event and look forward to hearing from all Club members. Write to the journal if you wish and express your point about such an event, if you tell the team what you would like then we can try to make it possible.
